Meet the Champ!

UVOCORP is now 15 years old! In order to commemorate the date, we are releasing a special issue of the UVOWORLD, among other things. Without further ado, let’s dive into the story of us!

In the beginning was the idea. This idea, born from fun, friendly chit-chat, was... “Man, we must do something! We don’t know what, but we’ve got to do something ASAP!” So one person took out his savings, another came up with an idea, third jumbled together a rough website, and fourth wrote the very 1st paper... That’s how we started UVO some 15 years ago. We were in our mid-twenties and had just a bit of experience doing this and that, very little money for a start-up, and only a rather vague idea about freelance writing… but we were burning to make an impact, and we had friends!

It seems incredible what a bunch of young people with ambition were able to achieve by putting their efforts together for a common goal, and even more astonishing how much it took to get UVO where it is today. What was once a hobby turned into a lifelong passion. In going from a small group of enthusiasts to becoming one of the leading employers in freelance writing, we’ve persevered through several business cycles and the ups and downs of stiff competition, and are now entering our maturity. We’ve evolved and moved from merely meeting expectations to developing new products, growing our international writer base, building ourselves up, and optimizing to the best of our ability.

Today, we celebrate these 15 years as a community of more than three thousand people in dozens of countries across the globe. We’re happy to have been the pioneers in this business, having launched and successfully developed new, unmatched services aimed at the improvement of the quality of our product and the professional skills of our writers. We’ve also diversified, launching freelance and in-house office projects, creating strong, professional mentoring and editing departments, and writing thousands of pages of guidelines and other learning materials. Today, we serve an international community of students from all around the world, including in the US, the EU, Canada and UAE. We provide jobs to people on every continent, with a special focus on Africa, Europe and Asia.

Emerging global trends urged us to look at ourselves from a different perspective. Our vision has changed, and we now place greater emphasis on the understanding and anticipation of our clients’ expectations. In practice, this means proposing better and more handy services, improving communication between customers, writers, and our support team, and focusing on meeting the expectations of clients with different backgrounds. It’s a complex task and a complicated goal to change and be willing to be changed, but we’re determined to successfully utilize the precious experience we’ve gained over the course of these 15 years to make an impact... together!

Keep calm and stay motivated

Who are these people who call UVO home? Meet the writers who’ve been with us from UVO’s very first baby steps! They still remember our old interface and their very first orders. They’ve changed, and so have we, yet we all continue to grow, progress, and do what we love most - being part of the UVO community.

The UVO of today is radically different from that of 2008. It’s now a much better-coordinated entity with a strong infusion of professionalism in all aspects of operations. Closely related to this is the recognition of writers as important stakeholders alongside other parties. Today's writer has a name and a face, not just a number.

During all the years working with UVO, I have grown in leaps and bounds. As an individual, I am more aware of my capabilities and limitations. As a writer, I am less prone to making common errors.

What I like the most about working at UVO is the flexibility of the job, which allows me to have greater work-life balance. At the same time, I like that the company is employee-friendly, as you try your best to help writers progress in their career.

My writing skills have markedly improved and continue to improve due to my stint with UVO. When I read those old drafts and compare them with current ones, I can see the huge progress that’s been made. That advancement is due to UVO’s quality standards and avenues to personal development.

My number one piece of advice to new writers is to learn to absorb opinions. People who want to start working in academic writing should take advantage of the myriad of training and development programs at UVO, value positive feedback, and read more widely.

Around the UVOworld

Let’s take a look back at the stunning photos of the cities and countries of our writers previously published in our magazine. It’s only when looking at these photos that one realizes how global a community we are. Let’s keep it rockin, world!
