Providing explanations is an essential part of writing. That is why authors commonly use the conjunctions \u201cbecause\u201d and \u201cbecause of\u201d to make relationships clear. These are basically used to present reasons or arguments. However, there are alternative options which serve to perform the same stylistic function.<\/p>\n

This article aims to suggest list of equivalents that can be used in content instead of the words \u201cbecause\u201d and \u201cbecause of\u201d.<\/p>\n

Avoid unnecessary repetitions. Consider these suggested substitutes. Use them to make the language of your writing more diverse:<\/p>\n

1. As \u2013 Writers commonly used this preposition instead of \u201cbecause\u201d or \u201cbecause of\u201d. It\u2019s a direct synonym to \u201cbecause\u201d, but a secondary one.<\/h4>\n

e.g. As they had no wings, the strangers could not fly away, and if they jumped down from such a height, they would surely be killed.<\/p>\n

e.g. As everyone already knows each other, there\u2019s no need for introductions. We\u2019ll get straight into the business<\/a> of the meeting.<\/p>\n

2. As a result of \u2013 This describes results and effects.<\/h4>\n

e.g. As a result of good test scores, he passed the class.<\/p>\n

3. As long as \u2013 This means that if the action which already happened or will take place in the future is true, then the second action is true, as well.<\/h4>\n

e.g. As long as I\u2019ve got my boots on, I might as well go out and get the firewood.<\/p>\n

4. Considering that \u2013 This phrase is equal in its meaning to the expression \u201cas long as\u201d.<\/h4>\n

e.g. Considering that mixed-use buildings were new at the time, it seems appropriate that builders came from different backgrounds and industries.<\/p>\n

5. Due to \u2013 This is the same as saying \u201cas a result of\u201d and performs the function of a preposition. It\u2019s typically used to replace the expression \u201cbecause of\u201d. It\u2019s used to explain why some action took place or did not.<\/h4>\n

e.g. Due to the graphic nature of this footage, viewer discretion is advised.<\/p>\n

6. For \u2013 The following preposition is mainly used in poems; still, its meaning corresponds directly to \u201cbecause\u2019\u2019 and \u201cbecause of\u201d.<\/h4>\n

e.g. For I have learned to look on nature\u2026<\/p>\n

e.g. For the snow, I might not be able to get to the airport.<\/p>\n

7. Inasmuch as \u2013 This one is a rather formal equivalent of \u201cbecause\u201d and \u201cbecause of\u201d expressions.<\/h4>\n

e.g. You will improve, only inasmuch as you practice.<\/p>\n

8. In view of the fact that \u2013 This phrase is similar in its meaning to the phrase \u201cinasmuch as\u201d and also has a formal meaning. The same as \u201cbecause\u201d and \u201cbecause of\u201d, this expression implies factual information.<\/h4>\n

e.g. In view of the fact that all the other members of the group are going, I think you should go too.<\/p>\n

9. Now that \u2013 This indicates an informal connection between the cause and effect.<\/h4>\n

e.g. Now that the weather has been dry for several days, I can cut the grass.<\/p>\n

10. Out of \u2013 This serves to explain feelings and emotions.<\/h4>\n

e.g. He did it out of curiosity.<\/p>\n

11. Owing to \u2013 This has the same meaning, as \u201cdue to\u201d. Both options are more formal in their meaning than \u201cbecause\u201d and \u201cbecause of\u201d.<\/h4>\n

e.g. Giraffes are inhabitants of open country, and owing to their length of neck and long flexible tongues, are able to browse tall trees, mimosas being among their favorites.<\/p>\n

12. Since that \u2013 This is synonymic in its meaning to the phase \u201cconsidering that\u201d.<\/h4>\n

e.g. These plants are rather expensive, since that they\u2019re quite hard to find.<\/p>\n

13. Since \u2013 This is a formal and secondary equivalent to \u201cbecause\u201d. It mainly indicates elapsed execution time. For this reason, its temporal and causal meanings can often be confused.<\/h4>\n

e.g. Since everything can be done from home with computers and telephones, there\u2019s no need to dress up for work anymore.<\/p>\n

14. Thanks to \u2013 Despite its sound, this expression can present either a positive or negative outcome.<\/h4>\n

e.g. Thanks to my fitness coach, I\u2019m now much stronger and healthier.<\/p>\n

e.g. Thanks to Danny, everyone will have to work overtime to fix this mistake.<\/p>\n

<\/a> 15. Through \u2013 This word performs the function of a preposition in the sentence and is usually followed by a clause, which partially counteracts the forgoing action.<\/h4>\n

e.g. Sue lost her boyfriend through her jealousy.<\/p>\n

e.g. How many pitching stars have been affected by rain delays?<\/p>\n

Choose suitable alternative options to clarify things and avoid unnecessary repetitions.<\/p>\n

Follow these simple recommendations. They will help you to:<\/p>\n
