UvoCorp: beyond the pages. Meet Kath, the mentor

Whatever happens, it will be ok. It has to be ok, because that’s how it is

«Whatever happens, it will be ok. It has to be ok, because that’s how it is.»

I grew up in California, United States. Not the beach part, but the agricultural central valley. I justify the state to go to a private university where I met my husband. He is a digital artist and illustrates mobile games and children’s books. We don’t have kids, but we have kept a plant alive for over a year so I feel like that is a win.

I have a ton of nieces and nephews; I hate, absolutely hate, helping them blow their nose. I would rather change 10 diapers than help a kid blow their nose.

I’ve always been interested in learning French, I’m not sure why. My high school only offered Spanish classes. So I took 4 years of that, and then additional 2 in college. But then I watched a movie in French called ‘Romantics Anonymous’, and it rekindled my desire to learn French. I think the idea of France is romanticized too. The Eiffel tower, the pastries, the music. Maybe that is why.

If I were God for a day, I would create an animal that could eat and digest plastic, then unleash it upon the world to help the environment. I would add more trees. And more raccoons. I would make it so spiders hate going indoors.

If I were God for a day,

My grandpa told me once, “I’ve gotten every dream I’ve ever had and worked for. My only regret is not dreaming bigger.”

I do like Thanksgiving a lot. I normally spend it with my husband’s family. We eat the traditional turkey, mashed potatoes, and pie. And then his family has a unique tradition of a paper airplane contest, which is a lot of fun. We have “prizes” (pieces of paper that the kids decorate beforehand) for the farthest distance, the most loop-de-loops, the best hang-time, etc. It’s rather silly, but everyone gets into it.

If I were to choose any location in the world where I’d love to live, that would be Nagasaki, Japan. I got to visit Japan once and it was incredible. I really loved the culture. Everything was very clean, and so cute! Even the construction signs were shaped like little animals.

I truly enjoy mentoring. It is very fulfilling to watch writers grow. Forming a solid thesis
statement might seem like a small thing, but they are used everywhere, even outside of academic writing. To be able to state your opinion clearly and succinctly is such a valuable skill.

I try to let writers know I am here to make their great ideas even more clear. Nearly all my writers have been absolute joys to work with.

If you take advantage of the mentorship program (apply revision notes, compile the
resources provided, ask lots of questions) it can impact the rest of your writing career. It’s 2-3 months of hard work, but you will be able to take higher quality orders and secure higher customer satisfaction, whether here at uvocorp, or elsewhere.

If I could have the dinner with anyone from history, that would be Susan B. Anthony. The cultural revolution like the one Susan B. Anthony started to get women the right to vote is an entirely different type of rebellion. You are telling your family, friends, community, church leaders, political leaders etc. that you reject the social norms they have dictated for you. I can’t imagine the bravery it would take. It would also be great to hear her thoughts about current women’s rights around the world. I think it would be an utterly fascinating interview.

I would like to publish a book someday, and then hopefully several more. I want to see Machu Picchu. Someday, in the distant future, I would love to sponsor an animal hospital that rehabilitates injured wildlife. My husband and I joke about starting a Panda refuge called “Panda-monium.” It would include other animals/features as well, like a water park for otters.

I feel very lucky to work in a job where I am learning new things every day — from the assignments yes, but mostly from the writers and supervisors I interact with. Uvocorp has given me a chance to work with so many different people from all over the world. It really is such a unique opportunity. Fifty years ago people could not have worked at a job like this.

My lifelong dream is to read every book ever written. Though it’s impossible, I’m going to try
my best.
