UvoCorp: beyond the pages. Meet Oleksii, the writer

Keep doing what we all love writing and having fun

“Make sure you have fun with your work”

I was born in Kharkiv and moved to Kyiv when I was three years old. I love Kyiv as my hometown. It is mostly green and people are nice and friendly. There are places to visit and enough entertainment. The traffic jams and lack of infrastructure are the main drawbacks. This city will always have a special place in my heart.

Top-5 places to see in Kyiv from Oleksii. Number one is probably the People’s Friendship Arch, primarily because of its superb view. Number two would be Kreschatyk, the main street of the city, of course. Number three is Poshtova Ploshcha (Post Square), because it’s right on the bank of the Dnieper river. Number four is Hidropark; it has plenty of beaches and sports activities. Finally, in the fifth spot is Kyivo-Pecherska Lavra. It’s a religious and ancient place with churches and deep caves; it has that ancient feel to it.

Varenyky (dumplings) with sour cream is my favorite ukrainian dish without a doubt. They have different fillers, but my favorite ones are meat, cabbage, and potatoes. Not quite healthy, but sometimes I just have that craving for them. In general, I like adding sour cream to the majority of my dishes, which, I think, is a tradition of the Ukrainian cuisine.

Academic writing is my longest-held job. Initially, I was looking for some extra income during my university years. I found a job in academic writing and internship in Citibank almost simultaneously. So, I was juggling two jobs and education at the same time. It was quite stressful at times. After graduation, I found a full-time job and worked there for an extended period of time (several years). Then, recession happened in Ukraine and our currency depreciated by 73 % in six months or so, making one job no longer sustainable. So, I decided to go back to academic writing then. I have been doing it since, while holding the other jobs on and off.

My first order with Uvocorp was a Rubric Analysis Paper. It was about TV, media, and visual art. March 10, 2015. English 101.

Writing for me has several benefits and favorite sides so to say. The primary thing is finding out new things, new concepts, new approaches. It is highly beneficial and rarely common in any other job. The routine component is actually minor in writing. Second, the focus on my favorite fields, namely Finance and Accounting, taught me many new things, while allowing personal growth and development.

My ideal work environment is having an ability to work anywhere, making my own schedule. So far Uvocorp scores 9 out of 10 points for that.

Self-motivation comes with the care of what you do. Writing about something I like and care about is the primary motivating factor. I am trying to balance personal life and work, while mixing in some other activities, even though it does not always work out. Other than that, I guess I enjoy this feeling of continuous workflow and satisfaction from the completed projects. Getting compensated, well, also helps a lot (thanks, Uvocorp).

My favorite topic is business valuation and financial analysis. I love digging deep into companies, their business models, industry reports, and making projections. Excel spreadsheets make me happy.

Respect the deadlines. That is my number one piece of advice for future writers. Managing deadlines seems easy, but might overwhelm you very fast. It is essential to be as disciplined as possible. Another piece of advice I can give – accept the work you know you are able to complete. In case it is difficult, make sure you have enough time to research it (see Advice #1). Number three – be diligent and make sure to leave time for reviewing your work after completion (once again, see Advice #1). Otherwise, make sure you have fun with your work, it is the number one method to avoid burnout.

The most memorable situations happen when the client goes an extra mile and thanks for a job well done. It is very gratifying to me.

Work/life balance. What I have learned so far is that discipline helps with balance. So, first I adjusted my daily schedule. I wake up earlier, which means I have to go to bed earlier. I start working earlier and make time for the other activities. Being productive gives you more time for extracurricular activities. However, there are times when you get off schedule and everything goes haywire. During these periods, it is vital to minimize the damage and get back on track as soon as possible. I am still learning that though.

We need to dedicate more time and effort into combating climate change. I am talking about clean energy, recycling, food consumption. The issue really needs a global effort and needs it now to prevent major negative consequences in the future.

The simplest things that bring me pleasure. Well, there is coffee in the morning, hugs, swimming, basketball, hanging out with friends and family, playing with cats and dogs, as well as good food.

Writing allows for an outlet in creativity, which is very important for me. Regarding dislikes, sometimes I do not like the short deadlines, when you are unable to expand on the specific topics as much as they deserve it. The stress of juggling several deadlines also sometimes gets to me. All-in-all, I am loving it. It is by far the most satisfying job I have held in my career.

If I had a chance, I’d love to be living in the United States of America. Texas or Kansas to be more specific. I have spent a year studying there and the experience has been great, including people, places, and general approach towards life. I am a big fan of American culture, which has contributed to my personal development as an individual, as well as an outlook for life.

I mostly read financial literature these days. However, I would recommend The Leader in You by Dale Carnegie. While it is not the recent book, the author’s writing is always inspirational and helpful.

Organizing stuff neatly and keeping up the effort when others would give up is my superpower.

I am grateful for the people that I work with and the community we have. I am thankful to God for giving us these lives and for the support of my lovely wife, who is always there for me when I need her. I wish everyone luck, happiness and success in their future endeavors.
